In order to hold in 2016 a recall referendum against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) is also on the move abroad, in search of support and pressure from major international organizations.
Maduro’s administration “must be feeling internal and external pressure,” MUD Secretary General for Vargas state Carlos Teixeira said.
The leader recalled that the opposition has convened demonstrations nationwide to push for the recall referendum, AFP quoted.
With regard to the role played by the global community, Texeira appreciated the good offices of the former presidents of Spain, Panama and the Dominican Republic, under the sponsorship of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) and the Vatican.
Texeira extolled as well the performance by Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), and the contacts established with Spanish deputies and members of the European Parliament, Efe reported.
“We are not putting forward a coup, or people’s revolt, but a constitutional solution,” he clarified.
