The president of the Venezuelan National Assembly (AN), Julio Borges, said on Wednesday that the Venezuelan government betrays indeed the country. Reference was made to a petition filed by President Nicolás Maduro to act with “vertical severity” against opposition deputies for being “unpatriotic.”
“A government that has shattered Venezuelans’ lives is the traitor indeed,” Borges said during a press conference. He affirmed that, no matter Maduro’s threats, they will continue lobbying for elections in Venezuela, Efe quoted.
The Venezuelan parliament passed on Tuesday an agreement to endorse the enforcement of Article 20 of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, Organization of American States (OAS), for elections in Venezuela, the release of Venezuelan political prisoners and the establishment of a humanitarian channel.
Maduro labeled the move as “high treason” and asked the judiciary to act against the opposition deputies.
