Venezuelan ruling party United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) asserted that Venezuela hoped to develop a good bilateral relation with the United States no matter who gets elected president of the United States on Tuesday, either democratic candidate Hillary Clinton or republican Donald Trump.
PSUV representative Freddy Bernal commented that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has reaffirmed the need to achieve "good relations" with Washington, but provided that sovereignty and self-determination of Venezuela are respected, DPA informed.
Bernal highlighted that Venezuela respects other countries’ sovereignty, so he refrained from expressing judgements about US presidential candidates.
Caracas and Washington lack corresponding ambassadors since 2008, when late President Hugo Chávez decided to expel the US ambassador from Venezuela following an impasse. Since then, all efforts to normalize the US-Venezuela relation have failed.
