The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, said Monday he expects that Venezuelans protesting against their country’s ongoing situation may be listened to by the government of President Nicolás Maduro.
“I know that the economic situation is hard, but protests staged by the (Venezuelan) people, not only by political parties, should be taken into account seriously,” Ki-moon said during a press conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
The UN top representative stressed that “the (Venezuelan) people must be heard as soon as possible.” Similarly, he recommended observing “freedom of assembly and media freedom,” Efe reported.
