A group of US Senators, both Republicans and Democrats, would bring forward on Wednesday a draft law in connection with the current state of affairs in Venezuela, containing sanctions on individuals responsible for “undermining” democracy or involved in corruption, US Senate advisors reported.
Under the draft law, USD 10 million would be used in humanitarian aid for Venezuela. The bill also requires the US Department of State to coordinate a “regional effort” to alleviate the crisis; furthermore, it asks the US intelligence for information on the involvement of Venezuelan government officials in corruption and drug trafficking, Reuters cited.
