The United Nations Security Council has plans to discuss on Wednesday the current state of affairs in Venezuela during an informal meeting behind closed doors, diplomatic sources reported.
United States, one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council requested the incorporation of the issue of Venezuela in a meeting scheduled to deal with other subject matters, Efe cited.
The petition was made known some hours after the passage of an extended decree on “state of economic emergency,” that enables Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to restrict some constitutional rights and civil liberties, as he deemed appropriate.
The sources said that the Venezuelan crisis has been included in “other items” in the agenda.
