United Nations Secretary General António Guterres voiced concern about the predicament in Venezuela, pointing to his endeavors to facilitate mediation and dialogue.
“I have followed up with great interest the situation in Venezuela,” the UN Secretary General said at the European Parliament in Strasburg.
Venezuela, he underscored, “is going through both a political and socioeconomic ordeal, with violence reaching a high toll,” Efe quoted.
In a press conference, along with the Speaker of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, Guterres disclosed that he had made some contacts with mediators, from ex-presidents to the Holy See.
Mediation channels “are indispensable to solve the crisis. And in solving the political crisis, a solution will be also given to the problems that affect the Venezuelan people.”
The UN Security Council tackled on Wednesday the current state of affairs in Venezuela during an informal meeting behind closed doors, diplomatic sources reported.
