Twelve Member Countries of the Organization of American States (OAS) expressed “deep concern” over the decision of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) to put off the recall referendum to cut the term in office of President Nicolás Maduro, and noted that this move jeopardized the possibility of establishing a dialogue between the government and the opposition, informed on Saturday Argentina’s Foreign Office.
The joint communiqué of OAS Member States was signed by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, United States, and Uruguay, DPA reported.
The governments subscribing to the communiqué reiterated their call on all Venezuelan “political actors” “to peacefully proceed with efforts toward national dialogue, directly or with the support of facilitators.”
