Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro on Tuesday requested Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to enact “immediately” an amnesty law passed last week by the opposition parliament group.
In this connection, Almagro termed “necessary” the release of political prisoners in Venezuela, an action which in his view “cannot be postponed,” he told journalists in Washington, Efe reported.
The OAS official told Lilian Tintori –the wife of imprisoned opposition leader Leopoldo López- gave him the legal instrument in question.
Almagro further deemed it “urgent” to enforce the amnesty law “to strengthen democracy and reconciliation in Venezuela.”
