“The local election process is put on hold” as long as the renewal of political parties takes place, reported Tania D’Amelio, member of the board of the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE).
During a radio interview, the CNE director said that under a ruling issued last October 21, 2016, political parties that have not been legitimated should be renewed. Therefore, the election process has been suspended until the completion of the legitimization. “The nomination right of the organizations for political purposes should not be violated.”
D’Amelio reported that five political organizations are effective, including the Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) and the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Psuv).
