Deputy Ángel Medina, the president of the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino), Venezuela chapter, strongly recommends the Venezuelan opposition coalition Democratic Unified Panel (MUD) making use of the latest report prepared by the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, as a “battle tool” for a government change.
Medina, leader of the opposition party Primero Justicia (Justice First), backed Almagro’s request to suspend Venezuela from the hemispheric organization if President Nicolás Maduro fails to call elections in 30 days. The move requires two thirds of the affirmative vote from 34 OAS Member States.
The Parlatino president reported that the Latin American Parliaments are to meet in Brazil next May 30. For him, the timing will be good to muster support to reactivate the OAS Democratic Charter against the Venezuelan government.
