The former President of Uruguay, José Mujica, voiced his "solidarity" with Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo López, who turned on Sunday 1,000 days imprisoned in Ramo Verde military prison for being allegedly responsible for 43 deaths occurred in the context of anti-government demonstrations back in 2014.
"I dislike political prisoners anywhere in the world. I feel “inmate solidarity” with the world’s political prisoners, regardless of their causes," Mujica asserted, AFP reported.
The former president also welcomed "the right path" initiated by the Catholic Church as mediator in government-opposition talks in Venezuela. He stressed he did not see "any other way out" given the conflict in the country.
