Luis Almagro, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), met on Monday with Venezuelan Legislative Council Deputy for Zulia state Lester Toledo, who has been accused of destabilizing the government of President Nicolás Maduro. He asserted he was persecuted “for campaigning for change through a recall referendum.”
After a one-hour meeting with Secretary Almagro, Toledo, who is now gone into exile, told the press that he was innocent, adding that accusations against him were a revenge for having reported acts of corruption and worked along jailed dissenter Leopoldo López.
