Venezuelan anti-government Congress lawmaker Juan Pablo Guanipa once again supported the efforts of opposition umbrella group Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) to implement a constitutional mechanism to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro under democratic, legal and peaceful terms.
In this regard, Guanipa noted the recall referendum is a constitutional right, adding it is “the most adequate tool.” In his view, the proposal to request Maduro’s resignation is “naive,” for people have the last word.
“Solutions must be constitutional. We will fight for the country we are seeking and all Venezuelans deserve,” the deputy remarked in an interview with private TV news channel Globovisión.
Similarly, the official stressed that the constitutional amendment means a “strategy” and that “peaceful demonstrations” should back such referendum which, in his words, may be held on October this year.
