As many as 2.2 million Venezuelans have voted so far
Spokesperson Oriana Hernández reckons that the numbers could keep on the rise
Turnout in the primaries convened by the opposition Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) has far exceeded the expectations of the dissenting alliance. As evidence of it, some 1.7-2.2 million Venezuelans have cast their ballots, that is, 10-13% of all registers of voters.
The information was supplied by Oriana Hernández, a representative of youth organization Voto Joven. She told El Universal that these numbers are likely to increase after the Electoral Committee opted to extend the voting hours.
"The decision to extend by one hour the period of time to vote proves that many people have been unable to exercise their right to vote, and this will result in new estimates," she added.
