Some polling centers downtown Caracas started operations with some delay, as some polling officers arrived late, said Luis Suárez, a member of the regional board of the primary elections.

However, he added that the representatives of the National Electoral Council (CNE), as well as electoral witnessess and officers established the polling stations later in the morning.

In other polling stations visited by El Universal newspaper, people were waiting in line to cast their ballot since the early hours of Sunday, February 12. No major incidents were reported at the time.

Five candidates seek to represent the Venezuelan opposition in the presidential vote in October: Pablo Medina, Diego Arria, María Corina Machado, Henrique Capriles and Pablo Pérez.
