Court bans Deputy María Corina Machado from leaving Venezuela

The action against the deposed opposition deputy is related to a criminal investigation into the events of February 12, when material damages were caused to the premises of the Attorney General's Office following a students' demonstration. This is the same case for which opposition leader Leopoldo López is facing trial

Deposed opposition Deputy María Corina Machado will not be allowed to leave Venezuela, as ruled by the 16th Control Court of Caracas on Wednesday.

Judge Adriana López's decision came in response to a request filed by the Attorney General to restrict the opposition leader's movements, as the Public Ministry is pondering the possibility to start an investigation to ascertain Machado's role in the February 12 events. This is the case for which opposition leader Leopoldo López and four young students are facing trial.

The court order was forwarded to the Administrative Service of Identification, Migration and Immigration (Saime), official sources confirmed. They explained that the decision was made because the Attorney General's Office fears that Machado could flee the country.
