Venezuelan top government officers held a press conference on Wednesday to report on an assassination plot and coup attempt.

Government officers were led by Caracas Mayor Jorge Rodríguez; Cilia Flores, the wife of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro; Congress Speaker Diosdado Cabello; Vice-President for Economic Affairs Rafael Ramírez,  and Executive Vice-President Jorge Arreaza.

Rodríguez showed a number of e-mails, presumably from María Corina Machado. In such e-mails forwarded to constitutionalist Gustavo Tarre, the former deputy regrets the unresponsiveness of some politicians with regard to her dismissal from the National Assembly (AN).

Rodríguez also put the blame on ex Carabobo state governor Henrique Salas Romer for Machado's "destabilizing plans."

He explained that all the pieces of evidence produced on Wednesday form part of a criminal inquest.

In addition to Machado, Rodríguez accused businessman Eligio Cedeño, Diego Arria and "another fugitive banker."

He contended that plotters schemed to kill Diosdado Cabello, Aragua state governor Tareck el Aissami and Minister of the Interior Miguel Rodríguez Torres.
