"I reaffirm it, Mr. Maduro, neither assassination nor coup. Step down," declared on Wednesday the leader of the opposition movement Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, who rejected as a "clumsy scam" the allegations by top Venezuelan government officers that she is involved in an alleged coup and assassination scheme.

The deposed congresswoman said that the top government officials' accusations against her have clearly shown that "the security bodies of Venezuela are a disgrace." She stressed that "the highest political leaders of the revolution," along with the state security and intelligence agencies, intend to persecute and intimidate citizens.

"Venezuela is shattering and breaking apart. Is not the minister of food aware that the shortage rate has hit 90% for some products? There are no medicines. Does the minister of the interior know that Venezuelans are being murdered and there is no justice? The minister of energy and president of Pdvsa has in his hands an indebted company and now aims to pave the way for an increase in the gasoline price," Machado said.

About the e-mails showed by Mayor of Caracas and leader of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Jorge Rodríguez, in the press conference on Wednesday, Machado explained that both email accounts belong to her. However, both accounts have been inactive since April last year. "The contents of the e-mail messages, each word of them, were fabricated."

Additionally, Machado said people know she does not use the kind of language showed in her supposed e-mail messages.
