Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced on Sunday the establishment of peace territories to address the issue of crime in the country.

In a peace rally held in Caracas, Maduro stated such areas would rely on institutions and citizens to ensure security. Such territories include: public places, highways, roadways, hospitals, schools, and universities.

Maduro, who urged in recent days not to turn insecurity into a political issue, said he feared the "dangerous extreme right-wing."

He added that he would announce later this week some plans currently in motion aimed at paying criminal groups with narcotics to murder people and engage in violent acts.

Regarding statistics on insecurity in Venezuela, the president said the numbers "are intended for the morbid fascination of the world and domestic media bourgeoisie."
