Guinness World Records has awarded the world record to Catatumbo lightning, a meteorological phenomenon occurred on the basin of Lake Maracaibo, in west Venezuela,  as posted on the website of environmental group Vitalis.

Based on the notice, the award was confirmed by Ralph Hannah, the representative of Guinness World Records for Latin America. However, the announcement has not been posted yet on its website.

"Based on a verification, I collected the scientific evidence and therewith requested, via e-mail, from World Guinness Record based in London to award the new world record to Catatumbo lighting, as it overtakes Kifulka village by 92 bolts of lightning per square kilometer," environmentalis Erik Quiroga elaborated.
