The Inter American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) filed on Thursday at the Inter American Court of Human Rights (IACHR Court) Case No. 12,828, Marcel Granier et al. - RCTV, Venezuela.

The case is related to the Venezuelan State decision not to renew the license of TV channel Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV). As a result, the channel went off the air as an open- signal TV on May 28, 2007.

The move made quite an impact of freedom of speech, adversely affecting RCTV stockholders, executive officers and journalists, as specified a press release from the organization attached to the Organization of American States (OAS).

In its report, the Commission concluded that the decision meant a breach of the freedom of speech, the right to equal treatment and non-discrimination and administrative due process.
