Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Elías Jaua said on Monday that his government is prepared to take action "of a trade, energy, economic and political nature" against the United States in the event of any sanction for "refusing" any recommendations of Washington on the recount of votes following the presidential election.

"If the United States resorts to the file of economic sanctions or otherwise, we will take whatever trade, energy, economic and political measures we deem it necessary to answer emphatically," Jaua told multi-state network Telesur in Ecuador, where he is attending a meeting of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA).
