Venezuelan Vice-President Nicolás Maduro said on Monday that the homeland should be always thankful for the action of the troops that rose up in arms on February 4, 1992.

"The homeland will have to thank you forever for your sacrifice to open up to it the doors to a new era of resurrection and dignity," the vice-president addressed to military officers during a ceremony held at Caracas Military Historical Museum, apropos the commemoration of the events of February 4, 1992.

Thanks to February 4, 1992, "the process of economic re-colonization that the bourgeois hawkers were imposing at that time," Maduro argued.

He said that the causes of February 4 should be found in the country history, including the fight for independence and national sovereignty.

To Maduro's mind, the reasons for the military uprising led by President Hugo Chávez can be found in the contemporary history, in the eighties, particularly the riots known as "El Caracazo."

Carrero: fresh out of The Tomb

Why did Gerardo come to Caracas? One day he took the decision, handed the car keys to his father, gave him his share of the cloth business they both owned in San Cristóbal and kissed his wife and two sons goodbye. "He told us he was going to continue fighting for Venezuela," the wife says. That was in mid-2013. He has been imprisoned since May 8, 2014.
