The Venezuelan Attorney General's Office appointed public prosecutor Jairzinho Orea to inquire into alleged plans to kill Executive Vice-President Nicolás Maduro and Congress' Speaker Diosdado Cabello.
Upon his appointment, the attorney began to collect evidence to determine the corresponding criminal liability, if any, the Attorney General's Office said in a press release.
On Wednesday, Minister of Interior and Justice Néstor Reverol claimed that some ultra right-wing groups, both at home and abroad, have plans to take the lives of the two senior officials.
Reverol explained that the state's security forces and intelligence services are taking actions to protect the lives of the vice-president and the congress' speaker.

Why did Gerardo come to Caracas? One day he took the decision, handed the car keys to his father, gave him his share of the cloth business they both owned in San Cristóbal and kissed his wife and two sons goodbye. "He told us he was going to continue fighting for Venezuela," the wife says. That was in mid-2013. He has been imprisoned since May 8, 2014.
