Executive Vice-President Nicolás Maduro and Speaker of the National Assembly Diosdado Cabello took part Wednesday in government rallies and events at 23 de Enero parish, west Caracas, to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the fall of dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez .
One of the slogans of the rallies was "the people will never be betrayed again," thanks to the revolution of President Hugo Chávez.
"People had great hopes, but were betrayed by a deal in New York and the Punto Fijo pact -a pact between the bourgeoisie and the elite of political parties that betrayed the people. The US imperialism supported this betrayal," Maduro told state-run television station VTV as he walked to the 23 de Enero parish.
"We are walking towards socialism, towards true happiness, towards ultimate freedom. We are going to build a society of peace that has a name: socialism," Maduro added.
"We are strengthening national unity," said Speaker of the National Assembly Diosdado Cabello.
