Gov't and dissenters commemorate 55th anniversary of democracy
Opposition alliance Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) convened a rally at Parque Miranda sport venue, east Caracas, while members of President Hugo Chávez's Executive Cabinet are to attend rallies and marches to commemorate the ousting of dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez in 1958
Chávez's followers are to meet at Nueva Granada Avenue, southwest Caracas; Libertador Avenue, north Caracas; and Propatria, west Caracas.
Marino Gonzalez, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the opposition alliance Unified Democratic Panel (MUD), confirmed the invitation to the rally at Parque Miranda.
"The Unified Democratic Panel is to deliver a message to the Venezuelan people. This will be a message of responsible choice. We will send a message of solidarity with those who suffer and those who struggle, the victims of violence (...),people unsuccessfully looking for a job, people hit by arbitrariness, confiscations, and abuse."

Why did Gerardo come to Caracas? One day he took the decision, handed the car keys to his father, gave him his share of the cloth business they both owned in San Cristóbal and kissed his wife and two sons goodbye. "He told us he was going to continue fighting for Venezuela," the wife says. That was in mid-2013. He has been imprisoned since May 8, 2014.
