Outgoing Minister of the Interior and Justice and candidate to the Aragua state government for pro-government United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) asked the deputies of the National Assembly (AN) to speed up the debate about the Disarmament Law, as stated in press release issued by the Disarmament Presidential Commission.
"The National Assembly should accelerate the debate and pass the law to progress towards disarmament. (...) We cannot tolerate firearms, or any conduct that goes against harmony, life and peace," the minister asserted in an interview with a private TV channel.
The Disarmament Presidential Commission is to file the bill in the short term for its second discussion.
As for its content, the Disarmament Law sanctions public officials who commit firearm trafficking offences and completely restricts the sale of firearms.
