The executive secretary of opposition Unified Democratic Panel (MUD), Ramón Guillermo Aveledo, remarked on Monday morning that there is no excuse in saying that Chávez won the election due to political opportunism, yet it serves to give an explanation "to continue making the respective adjustments and corrections."
Aveledo added that some important goals are to be accomplished in the run-up to December 16 governors' election, which implies taking steps to defend those areas already won by the opposition.
"The local election will be undoubtedly influenced by the results of October 7 (presidential election), yet we have our motives to defend decentralization against a Government that denies and does not accept it," expressed the opposition leader.
The leader said that in the local election to be held next December the opposition is ought to defend, among other things, the good local management. "The state governors best recognized by the work done in their offices are ours. They are well known because of their social efficiency, solidarity and competitiveness," he added.
"This is what we are called to defend not only for the purpose of maintaining the leadership, but also to demonstrate that it is possible to do it better than elsewhere in the country. It is about the right to be represented by better governments," Alveledo noted.

He warned behind closed doors in the midst of the social upheaval occurred during the oil strike in 2002 and 2003.
