Socorro Hernández, director of the National Electoral Council (CNE), said that there were no lines of argument on Sunday to disregard the election results that gave another victory to President Hugo Chávez.
The country "has matured a lot." Therefore, any attempt at dismissing the results would have been unsuccessful. "Acting otherwise would have meant the removal of any political future," she said in a program on TV network Telesur.
She explained that for the CNE, an irreversible trend to announce the results meant a substantial difference of one million votes.
