The president of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Mexican José de Jesús Orozco, stated on Thursday in his opening remarks at the forum "Strengthening of the Inter-American system of Human Rights," held in Mexico DF, that Venezuela's decision to withdraw from the IACHR disobeys what was agreed by the members of the Organization of American States (OAS) in its last meeting, held in Bolivia last July.
"It is an act diametrically opposed to the spirit of universalization (of fundamental rights and liberties) expressed by the OAS Member States in their latest meeting in Cochabamba," Orozco asserted.
In his remarks, Orozco urged once again the Venezuelan authorities to reconsider its decision, Efe quoted.

José Vicente Rangel clearly said: "We are not conducting negotiations threatened with a gun in the head." He warned behind closed doors in the midst of the social upheaval occurred during the oil strike in 2002 and 2003. Dissenting Timoteo Zambrano answered back that no other option was available: "The thing is that otherwise, you do not negotiate."
