UN rapporteur criticizes the gov't application of "a form of censorship"
Frank la Rue, the United Nations rapporteur for freedom of expression, questioned the attachment of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) against private news TV channel Globovisión, noting that it is a form of state censorship.
"The attachment of assets is a form of censorship. It is an attempt at closing media outlets through supposedly legal or judiciary actions. I think this is very questionable and worthy of criticism," said La Rue on the phone with Globovisión.
"As a UN rapporteur, I think it is very important to clarify that this is a form of state censorship. It is closing and limiting the media," he added.
