Vicente Díaz, a director of Venezuela's National Electoral Council (CNE), said that the CNE has not discussed the possibility to change the date of presidential election.
"Nobody has raised this possibility. There has been no consultation about the possibility of holding the presidential election on a different date. The election will be held on October 7."
A candidate's illness or any other problem is not a reason to change the date of election, Díaz said. "There is no legal provision to justify such a decision." The only possibility would be to hold presidential election in December but it involves multiple elections (president, governors, mayors) and the electoral body will not accept it," the electoral body director concluded.
