Henry Ramos Allup, the Secretary-General of Venezuelan opposition party Acción Democrática (Democratic Action, AD, a social democratic party), assessed the opposition primary elections held on February 12, after a meeting of the party's National Executive Committee (CEN).

Ramos acknowledged that not all the activists and supporters of the social democratic group voted for the party's candidate Pablo Pérez. However, Ramos said that AD was the political party that won the highest number of mayoral candidates in the primaries. According to the opposition leader, AD candidates won in 64 municipalities, followed by Primero Justicia (Justice First) with 42; Un Nuevo Tiempo (A New Era) party with 32 candidates; Social Christian party Copei with 29; Por la Democracia Social (For Social Democracy, Podemos) with 13; Voluntad Popular (People's Will party) with 10, eight independent candidates, while Convergencia, Patria para Todos (Fatherland for All, PPT) and ProVe won six nominations each.

Ramos added that AD candidates won the opposition nominations for the governor's offices of Delta Amacuro, Vargas, Anzoátegui, and Guárico.

Ramos ensured that "there would be no gaps" in the election campaign.
