During the formal opening session of the Legal Year, in the headquarters of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ), Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez announced the appointment of Cilia Flores as the new Solicitor General.

"I have appointed Cilia Flores as new Solicitor General to continue the work of (late) Carlos Escarrá," the Venezuelan Head of State said in a nationwide radio and TV broadcast.

Chávez highlighted the work of Carlos Escarrá, who died of a massive heart attack last Wednesday and held the position since August 2011. "I pay tribute to him (Escarrá), who fought along with us for full justice and for a new social rule of law and justice."
