Fourteen people were killed following the crash of a gasoline truck at the Pan American Highway, in the outskirts of Caracas. Of this total, 12 were passengers in a bus traveling between Caracas and Los Teques, Miranda state. Eleven were killed inside the unit and one on the outside, while he tried to escape the flames. The other two people killed were traveling in private cars. The information was provided by Caracas Metropolitan Firefighters.

There are eight vehicles involved in the accident, including the fuel truck and the bus, the sources said.

The makes and plates of the vehicles could not be identified, because the fire left them unrecognizable. Witnesses said they heard an explosion. Sources suggested that the vehicles were burned when the fuel ran down the pavement, along with fire, as the fuel truck crashed some 300 meters away.

The situation was controlled in 45 minutes by the Caracas Metropolitan Area and Miranda State Firefighters, members of the Civil Protection Agency, the Penal and Criminology Investigative Police Agency (Cicpc) and the People's Guard. The incident took place at kilometer 3, where the fuel truck apparently struck the bus and overturned at 2:15 pm.

Authorities described the situation as "extremely seriously" and recommended motorists not to use the highway. The road was closed in both directions as there was fuel sprinkled on the pavement.
