Pedro Maldonado, the director of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) commented on Wednesday that the USD 2.1 million fine imposed on TV news network Globovisión (an amount that represents 7.5% of the network revenues in a year) is "absolutely payable."

"The channel reported revenues higher than USD 29.5 million in 2010, and the fine to be paid represents 7.5 percent of Globovisión' revenues. Therefore, the fine is absolutely payable."

However, although Conatel had initially reported that the fine should be paid immediately, its board of directors decided that the private TV news channel Globovisión could pay the USD 2.1 million fine by December 31, 2011.
