The price of the Venezuelan oil basket ended this week at USD 108.75, gaining USD 1.76 (1.64%) with respect to the previous week (USD 106.99), informed the Venezuelan Ministry of Petroleum and Mining.

"Oil prices continue their upward trend this week amid favorable economic information from China and the US, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and the weakness of the US dollar with respect to the euro," the ministry posted on its website.

Consequently, the Venezuelan oil basket annual average price stands at USD 104.04 per barrel.

Is protest over?

That political protest in Venezuela has lost momentum seems pretty obvious: people are no longer building barricades to block off streets near Plaza Francia in Altamira (eastern Caracas), an anti-government stronghold; no new images have been shown of brave and dashing protesters with bandanna-covered faces clashing with the National Guard in San Cristóbal, in the western state of Táchira; and those who dreamed of a horde of "Gochos" (Tachirans) descending  in an avalanche to stir up revolt in Caracas have been left with no option but to wake up to reality.
