The cost of the household basket of food, goods and services in January amounted to USD 1,486 in December 2011, up USD 31 compared to November 2011, according to data reported by the Workers' Center for Documentation and Social Analysis (Cenda), a private research institute.
Price increases were reported at the end of the year in items such as clothing and footwear (3.4%), food (2.8%), healthcare (2.6%), personal care and household cleaning products (2.2%) and housing (1.4%).
Public utility rates and education reported no changes in December.
From December 2010 to December 2011, the basic basket surged by 28.4%, a USD 328 increase in 12 months.
