Ana Oramas, a deputy for political Coalición Canaria (Canary Coalition, CC) party, wants Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel García-Margallo to appear at the Parliament in order to brief on the "lack of safety and legal assurances suffered by Spanish residents in Venezuela."
The party from the Canary Islands reported on Monday in a press release that it would like the minister to clarify at the Committee of Foreign Affairs on the steps taken to protect the interests of some Spaniards with expropriated assets by the Venezuelan government, Efe quoted.
"Canary Islanders are the most affected ones by the enforcement of the agrarian reform bolstered by such country, which entails seizure and squatting on lands; still worse, most of them have not been compensated accordingly," stated the communiqué released on Monday by CC.
Oramas voiced concern about dispossession of lands and, additionally, "safety of the affected people," who have only a consulate in Caracas to enforce their rights.
