The times when cell phones were useful only to make and receive calls are now over. With the development of smart mobile devices, phones are no longer a mere instrument to remain connected; they have become a sophisticated working tool.

Since 2007, the biggest phone manufacturers have been working on the development of systems and applications that allow users to turn cell phones into a tool with similar characteristics to those of a personal computer.

Smart phones are compatible with software applications aimed at increasing connectivity and enhancing data processing. In principle, the fact that e-mail could be configured in these devices already turned them into smart phones; however, many changes have taken place since then.

In 2007-2011, series of devices with various characteristics that range from basic office tools, multimedia and entertainment applications to sophisticated software applications that allow video editing and producing, and even look at the person on the other side of the line have been designed.

Today's cell phone users are able to be communicated, manage their agendas, browse in the Internet, read documents, take pictures, interact in social networks, inform and be informed; all of this through their cell phones.

All in one
One of the most popular smart phones is the Blackberry, manufactured by Canada's Research In Motion (RIM). This is a multitask device, designed for an executive target, which allows users to be communicated in any place and at any time.

Waiting to be sitting in front of the computer to check the e-mail inbox belongs in the past. The Blackberry operative system is compatible with almost all e-mail platforms, thereby making it possible to set up to 10 e-mail accounts on the same device, being it possible even to browse attached files.

Instant messaging is also one of the main attractions of these devices. In fact, RIM competitors are now working hard to try to come up with a similar feature.

Through BlackBerry Messenger, users are able to communicate in real time with friends and relatives having devices of the same brand. Likewise, the BlackBerry is compatible with other instant messaging platforms.

Through its browsers, users can obtain immediate information wherever they are and search for addresses in any place thanks to GPS maps.

Due to their characteristics of phone for executives, BlackBerry phones have several applications to organize time, agendas, calendar, address books, task list, among others.

Multimedia tools available on this mobile phone -camera, audio and video recorder - offer entertainment to users.

This device can be customized according to its user's needs, since more than 350,000 applications have been developed for this phone.

Another smart phone that is on the top of the list of cell phone users is Apple's iPhone. Its arrival in the Venezuelan market is all the rage thanks to the facilities offered by 3G technology.

The development of innumerable applications allows users to adapt this device to their needs. Furthermore, fourth generation iPhones, which stand out due to their multimedia features and interactive tools, are already on the market.

iPhone 4 is equipped with two cameras that allow users to make video calls. It also records and edits high-definition videos, is multitasking and has one of the fastest operative systems on the market.

Presently, four operative systems share the market: Apple's iOS, Android, RIM's OS6 and Microsoft Windows iPhone.

iPhone operative system is the most advanced in the world, as described by its manufacturer, since iOS 4 is the base on which this device works and makes it different from its competitors. This platform is compatible with the world's largest collection of mobile applications.

Android is a mobile device operative system, which is based on Linux. Initially, it was developed by Android Inc., which was later bought by Google, and now has about 20,000 applications.

OS6 for BlackBerry is an operative system that is compatible with Java and allows for full wireless activation as well as synchronization.
