The Paraguayan government has requested again in Congress Venezuela's accession as a full member into the Common Market of the South (Mercosur), parliamentary sources reported. The Paraguayan Congress is controlled by the opposition.
The request was submitted to the Senate's Committee on Foreign Affairs, said sources quoted by the website of Paraguayan newspaper Abc Color.
Paraguay is the only Mercosur's signatory country which has not yet completed the parliamentary proceedings for Venezuela's adhesion, despite the fact that the other founding members of the bloc, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, approved Venezuela's Protocol of Accession to the Common Market of the South in 2006.
