Members of the Jewish community to meet with President Chávez

Politics
The Jewish community in Venezuela will have the opportunity to meet with President Hugo Chávez and express to him their concerns about Anti-Semitic expressions in state-run media, said David Bittan Obadia, the first Vice President of the Confederation of Israelite Associations of Venezuela (CAIV).

"Anti-Semitism is a matter of concern that should be finished off. We do not deem it a state policy, but the government has the tools to stop it. We will be very straightforward in expressing our concerns to the President," Bittan said. The meeting will be held in mid-September.

Bittan lamented that anti-Semitic expressions have been uttered by specific persons. However, the Jewish community is afraid that this discriminating behavior permeates to the rest of society.

"We can see that the government is willing to cooperate," Bittan said.
