The procedure seeks to determine if the remains that rest in the National Pantheon belong to the Venezuelan hero
A team of scientists and forensic experts extracted on Monday teeth of María Antonia and Juana Bolívar, sisters of the Venezuelan liberator to compare their DNA with the genetic material of Simón Bolívar and confirm that the remains buried in the National Pantheon are authentic.
Vice President Elías Jaua said that the exhumation of the bones occurred during the morning and that the comparison of Bolívar's DNA with the genetic material of his sisters will definitely clear up any doubt about the identity of the remains that rest in the National Pantheon, Efe reported.
The extraction of the teeth was performed after the remains of Bolívar's sisters were exhumed from their tombs inside the Cathedral, downtown Caracas.
