The chapter of the Federation of Trade and Industry Chambers (Fedecámaras) in the state of Lara will submit on Thursday to the Mayor's Office of Iribarren Municipality a technical report prepared by a team of engineers which provides the reasons why the lands located in the industrial area I of Barquisimeto are not suitable for housing construction.
Elías Bessis, the president of the business chamber in the region, stressed that the expropriation of lands in the zone is illegal because the government did not modify in advance the Local Urban Development Plan (PNUL) of the city of Barquisimeto. Bessis added that the move disregards private property.
The PNUL provides regulations about future urban development and the plan may be modified in 2013. This is the reason why the trade and industrial sectors deem the expropriation decree illegal.
Bessis added that the municipality of Iribarren has plenty of lands, which under the PNUL could be used for urban purposes at a lower cost and without affecting jobs. He said that according to studies, a house built in the industrial area will cost approximately VEB 1.2 million (USD 261,000).
