Empresas Polar, the largest food industry in Venezuela, rejected on Wednesday the decree of expropriation of company's facilities and lands in the city of Barquisimeto, state of Lara, to build houses.
Gustavo Hernández, director of Cervecería Polar, a beer affiliate of Empresas Polar, described the measure against facilities that were fully operating as "arbitrary" and "unfair." The premises were used by the company since 1954.
Hernández said he is aware of the housing problem in Venezuela, but he believes that there are more efficient options that would involve a lower investment of money and would respond immediately to the needs of the population.
Meanwhile, Guillermo Bolinaga, director of law and regulatory affairs of Empresas Polar said that both the expropriation decree and the declaration of public interest violate the legal reserve system.
