Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez cast doubt for the second consecutive day on the decision of Henri Falcón, the governor of the state of Lara, to leave the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and join Fatherland for All (PPT), a left-wing political party and PSUV ally. Chávez said that the PPT has been deceived and has been used by the bourgeoisie.
Further, the Venezuelan ruler said during his weekly radio and TV program Aló Presidente, aired from the Gulf of Cariaco, eastern Venezuela, where he hailed the benefits of tuna, that Venezuelan authorities would seize the boats from people "who sell tuna on the high sea to be consumed outside Venezuela." He insisted that fishermen should be trained in the use of weapons "in order to be soldiers and be ready to fight against any aggression."
Meanwhile, Chávez urged Queen Elizabeth II of England to give independence to the Caribbean countries after a referendum in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
