In the opinion of Caracas Metropolitan Mayor Antonio Ledezma, Chilean politicians and lawmakers, aware of the need to advocate democracy in the western hemisphere, would be ready to visit Venezuela in order to back political prisoners and lobby for their freedom.
According to a press release, the Metropolitan Mayor met with Jovino Novoa, the outgoing Senate president, and other Senators.
"All of them are willing to launch campaigns in favor of freedom of political prisoners and also condemn several attacks on freedom of expression suffered by our country," Ledezma said.
The high-ranking government officers expressed interest in witnessing the upcoming election for the National Assembly, scheduled for September 26.
During his visit to Chile, Ledezma also met with several ex presidents, including former Spanish Premier José María Aznar.
