The government of Dominican Republic regretted on Tuesday Venezuela's "concern and discomfort" about the mediation process initiated by President Leonel Fernández to defuse tensions between Venezuela and Colombia.

The government of the Caribbean island highlighted his "unconditional willingness" to work for (Latin American) unity.

"We deeply regret any concern or discomfort that the agenda (promoted by Leonel Fernández) may have caused inadvertently, in the brotherly government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," said a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Santo Domingo, AFP reported.

On Monday, the Venezuelan government sent a protest note to the Dominican Republic to show its "concern" and "discomfort" by the mediation process initiated by Fernández without any prior consultations, a Venezuelan diplomatic source told AFP.
