Spanish newspaper El País refers to "The problem with Chávez"

Politics
In its editorial on Tuesday, entitled "The problem with Chávez," the Spanish newspaper El País calls into question the willingness of the Venezuelan government to "settle any controversy" related to the fight against terrorism.

Although the governments of Venezuela and Spain signed last weekend a joint statement, "it is possible that it shows a change in attitude of the Venezuelan government with respect to the issue, but we will only be aware (of their real attitude), as we see the measures adopted to investigate the allegations contained in the indictment issued by judge (Eloy) Velasco."

"At the moment, we only have a statement issued by Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, which far from showing readiness to cooperate with the judge, disqualifies him rudely and attacks former Prime Minister (José María) Aznar using similar terms to those that led the King (Juan Carlos de España) to ask (Venezuelan President Hugo) Chávez: 'Why don't you just shut up?' at the Ibero-American summit held in November 2007 in Santiago."

(The investigation) "is not the result of a mere speculation or a show promoted by the United States, as Chávez said, but a serious issue of judicial nature which will not disappear with political or diplomatic statements," El País said.
